Hello friends, Welcome to How to Electro. Today, we will know about 7805 Voltage Regulator IC. We will, at the end of this post, Know everything from basic to high level about this IC. The topic which will be covered in this post about this IC includes,its working, its uses & we will also make a 5V Voltage Regulator circuit as an example to understand it more easily.
So, friends let's begin to know about this...

7805 IC - Working

7805 IC is a member of 78xx Series, a series of fixed voltage regulator IC. As, we all are awaited that in an electronic circuit sometimes fluctuation occurs in voltage, this can cause some problems in the circuit and the circuit will be useless. For this, these fixed linear voltage regulator IC are made, so that In a certain conditions, it gives a constant output voltage and prevents circuit from being destroyed.

The 7805 IC is a IC which is designed to convert a Input range of 7.4V - 35V to 5V, means that within this voltage range, it will give a constant output of 5V and makes the circuit seamlessly work.

  1. Input - It is used to take Input +Voltage from power source.
  2. Common - It is used to take -Input Voltage and also for giving -Output Voltage. So, this pin is also known as Common PIN.
  3. Output - This Pin +5v Output within the input voltage range.

7805 IC - Uses

As we all know about 7805 IC from the above topics. So, we can easily know about the uses of 7805 IC. This can be used for many purposes which includes, Power Bank, 5v Power Supply and So on.

7805 IC - Circuit Example

So friends, I think that we all had understand about the 7805 IC. So friends, let's take our knowledge to a Second Level by practicing, what we had learnt in this post. So, we will make a 5V Power Supply. As we know that this IC gives 5V Constant output within certain voltage range. So, we will as a Input Power Source,  takes a 12V Battery and then Connect it to 7805 IC as shown in below Circuit.

This Circuit Contains two Capacitor C1 and C2 which is added at the input and output pin respectively. These capacitors are used for maintaining a constant flow of voltage from Input Pin to Output Pin, which means that a sudden increase in voltage at Input or Output pin will disturb the proper working of the circuit. So these Capacitors are used here, which will store the extra charge into it and supply it when required.
